South Coast Elvis impersonator finds his groove again

Fans can follow him on social media.

Markus Mulder, an Elvis Presley impersonator with the stage name Vin, from Port Shepstone, started his musical career in 2005.

In those days, he performed with his wife Wilhelmina under the name Bonne and Clyde.

Their first album, My Way, gained recognition for the song Die Lekker Liedjie.

Markus also appeared on television in soapies, as well as in adverts and more.

But it was short-lived as Wilhelmina became ill with kidney failure and Markus all but disappeared from the industry to care for her.

In 2019, he moved to the South Coast on his own while Wilhelmina was hospitalised for dialysis.

As he was preparing a comeback Covid struck, and that all faded.

Wilhelmina died on March 30, the day lockdown started in South Africa.

When it ended, Markus, at the lowest ebb of his life, and armed with only his guitar and a few speakers, picked himself up again and began entertaining all around the South Coast.

It was a long, hard slog, but gradually he started to gain recognition.

Ian Bossert of IB Enterprises signed him first and, with the help of producer Manus Meyer, they recorded some songs.

His release, I Wanna Live (a Tommy Oliver cover), came out in August this year and was nominated for the South African Country Music Association Foundation (SACMAF) awards held recently.

The song was also aired on a German radio station shortly before this.

Marcus shared how I Wanna Live was originally sung by the late Tommy Oliver in the ’70s and ’80s.

Tommy’s wife Angie Hollamby, gave him permission to record and release it.

I Wanna Live was recorded by Manus Meyer and labelled by IB Enterprises, with Ian Bossert doing the final distribution.

Markus has travelled many miles to get to where he is now. He has admitted the South Coast has grown on him, and now calls it home.

He’s working on a few covers and a few of his own songs – watch this space.

Fans can follow Markus on social media, including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
