Hibberdene Happenings: Start filling those new diaries with fun events

After a recess of a few weeks, the Methodist Church’s fellowship and chair exercise classes resumed on Wednesday, 8th while the Knits and Natters group reconvenes  on the 9th. The first men’s breakfast is scheduled at the church for Saturday, February 1, at 7am, at a cost of R30 per person. Make a note of this date before diaries fill up for the next month.

Good news is that distribution of the clinic’s medication is in the hands of the Lions once again from January – after an absence of a good few years. Very little is known about the arrangements by the Lions themselves and hopefully things will become clearer once the process is actually in operation.

It appears that ‘Direct Medicines’ will deliver the medicine to the clinic, from where it will be distributed to patients. To your scribe, who did this for years, it all seems a bit haphazard, but who knows, perhaps it will all work out perfectly. Dental and eye clinics resume towards the end of February and dates will be published as soon as they become available.

Carol le Roux, well-known for the exquisite porcelain dolls she produces, has donated one of these beauties to the Lions Club. ‘Bailey’ will be raffled at some time in the near future, so please support this initiative. All profits will go to Lions’ charities.

Well done

With matric results having been released this week, heartiest congratulations go to each and every one who realised their dreams and passed the exams. May you go from strength to strength in your future life and studies.

To those who did not succeed, ‘byt vas’ and persevere – you will be rewarded. With another week of school holidays left, a great atmosphere prevails and many holidaymakers are still enjoying themselves on the coast. They will no doubt be returning home shortly.

Charlie Smith was not feeling too well just after Christmas and it is hoped that he is feeling a lot better by now.

Phyllis Michaelis, who was suffering from assorted aches and pains, has been visiting her son Norman in Gauteng for the past week and reports that she is feeling a whole lot better.

Happy anniversary wishes go to Debbie and Rod Fletcher, Anita and Geoff York and Reverend Anneli and André Mey for January 5th.

The shops, beach and local eateries have been packed to capacity and traffic in the centre of town has been horrendous, so it will be good to get back to relative normality again. And, speaking of normal, your scribe had no sooner sat down to write this column last Sunday afternoon when the dreaded load shedding was upon us once again.
