Tweni Talk: Visible policing keeps beaches safe
Thanks to law enforcement and security companies in Umtentweni for doing such a good job
Christmas and the festive season have simply flown by. Monday this week was the first semi-official day of work, but your scribe does know some lucky people who only start on January 13.

Thanks to law enforcement, as well as security companies in Umtentweni, for doing such a good job of keeping beaches safe this season and preventing alcohol being taken onto the beaches. It meant everyone got to have fun. Hats off to Anton Rossouw of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality who was seen working early on Christmas morning doing last minute repairs to the by-law notice at Tweni beach.
Frightening fireworks
Unfortunately fireworks have to be mentioned. Hopefully inspectors will clamp down on sales of fireworks which sounds like World War III has been started in the backyard. Noisy fireworks are not necessary and is extremely difficult to police, but stopping the sale of ‘big bangs’ like cherry bombs must be enforced.
Happy holidays
Tweni whale deck was a popular venue and visitors mostly left the place clean – except for one group who did not bother about carrying their plastic bag to the bin.
Lane and Kelly Allan and family had the most awesome time visiting friends in Dubai, but will probably need a vacation to get over their vacation after packing so much into their holiday.
The Prepok family – André, Di, Connor and Dylan spent their vacation in Mauritius visiting family.
They managed to survive a cyclone that hit the east of the island and experienced a lot of hectic wind and rain.
A few Tweni families headed up to Mozambique for their holidays, so the roads on the way back were rather congested with traffic. For those of us who stayed put, just trying to get to Shelly Beach was a mission. All local shops and businesses must be very grateful for the additional spending from our visitors.

Birthday wishes go to Colleen Haggard and Ronald Tarboton (6th), Gavin Massey (9th) and Noel Phillips and Kelly Allan on January 12.
Remember the challenge is on to plant as many spekboom and indigenous trees as possible this year.
