Municipal vehicles destroyed in ‘mystery’ fire
The vehicles caught alight at the Ugu Fresh Produce Market depot in Marburg.
A case of malicious damage to property is being investigated after two Ugu vehicles caught fire on Tuesday morning this week.
According to KZN provincial police spokesman, Thembeka Mbhele, the vehicles mysteriously caught alight at the Ugu Fresh Produce Market depot in Marburg.

“A security guard heard a loud bang and upon investigating he saw the vehicles, a Toyota Quantum and a Nissan minibus, on fire,” said Colonel Mbhele.
The fire department was called to extinguish the blaze.
Ugu District Municipality spokesman France Zama confirmed the incident.
In a statement he said,”The municipality is still shocked and in disbelief at the manner in which municipal assets meant to deliver services to communities were destroyed. The circumstances around the cause of the fire are still not clear.”
Mr Zama added that an investigation had been instituted and appropriate action would be taken, depending on the findings.
“We would like to encourage anyone with information that may help with investigation to contact the Port Shepstone police station.”
