Crime was up in Tweni last week and weekend, so don’t be complacent when it comes to security. You don’t need all the fancy bells and whistles, you just need to put all outdoor goods out of sight, so that they are not easily accessible.
Exterior lights are a fair deterrent, enabling you to easily see any trespassers in the yard. An alert resident in Link Road was able to call the security company when he noticed his neighbours’ unoccupied house being broken into. SAPS K9 unit also attended and the perpetrators are now in custody. Good work to all involved.

Prostitutes are making themselves very visible in Tweni lately. It’s obviously a case of supply and demand, please guys, rather don’t pick up girls off the streets. Tweni roads are so full of potholes and it is extremely difficult to drive in a straight line along most of them. Let’s hope that the new year brings some relief for motorists as tyres are being damaged daily.
The whale deck is a wonderful spot at which to spend time and although there are two street lights there at night, it’s not the place to be unless you are in a large group. A young couple stopped at the whale deck late last Saturday night and were attacked by two robbers.
Thankfully they were not badly hurt. Please be very aware of your surroundings at all times and expect the unexpected. Thanks to David Naudé, who picked up the woman’s purse and ID document during his morning walk.
Speaking about the unexpected, while your scribe was scanning the whale deck camera footage, a white bakkie stopped in the open parking area and a woman opened the passenger door, pulled down her pants and relieved herself in full view of anyone who may have been around. What was she thinking? Discretion is required.

Proud parents Shereen Govender and Omar aka Oupa Habib of Umtentweni, congratulate their son Ché Habib, who matriculated from Port Shepstone High with seven As for school subjects as well as two additional As for extra subjects AP maths and IEB maths. He will be studying mechatronic engineering at UCT.

Welcome back to Nellie and Daniel Davies, who attended Nellie’s eldest son’s wedding in the Philippines – leaving Mike at home to hold the fort. Sad news is that Jean Dean of Tweni went to visit family in Kloof for a vacation and took her cat Mitzi with her. Mitzi disappeared and Jean is sure she has been taken by an eagle.
The ‘Runderuls’ started the new year with a bang and if anyone is interested in joining this friendly running group on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 5am and over weekends.

Tweni had two shark scares in one week and lifeguards are taking every precaution and have banned swimming during these sightings.
Birthdays this week are Kyle Steyn (13th), Amanda Stander (17th), Mervin Curnow (19th) and Chris Els on January 20.
