Tuning In: Help Chris-Tiaan on his quest

Now life really returns to ‘normal’. Schools open and the routines are established with lunch boxes, school bags, socks and shoes and the rest.

Good luck to parents, pupils and teachers for the start of the 2020 school year. Thoughts are with the newbies who will start school for the first time. Exciting and challenging times ahead for all concerned.

Congratulations to local lass Leigh Meyer, daughter of Barbara and the late Cliff Meyer, on her recent marriage to Scott Mathie of Hillcrest.

A big thank you goes to Ethekwini DSW workers for cleaning up all disposable nappies and plastic bottles that had washed up on the far side of Widenham beach after the big rains a few weeks ago. Great job, guys.

Chris-Tiaan Nortjé, the young global warming enthusiast with a heart of gold has been working hard to save our planet by planting spekboom. He has planted more than 4 000 plants since September 2019.

This incredible plant uses carbon to make plant tissue and has the ability to sequestrate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and finally store it in the ground.

Every 2.5m high spekboom can absorb 635g of carbon dioxide per year and it is 10 times more efficient in seperate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than the Amazon rain forest.

Community members can support Chris-Tiaan’s open morning at 12 Nanette Avenue, Pennington, every Saturday.

The Pennington market will be held at Relton Hall, Pennington on Saturday, February 1.
