From The Word: ‘Have the eyes of your heart enlightened’
There is a rich inheritance promised to those who are in Christ.
Ephesians 1:16-18 English Standard Version
16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints…

If there ever was a time when people needed hope it’s now.
South Africans have it tough in many ways, of that there is no doubt, but we also have it ‘not that bad’ when compared to some places in the world.
There are wars, and rumours of wars, around the world, especially in the middle east.
Australia has had severe drought and rampant fires in parts; New Zealand and other areas earthquakes.
These are a few of the examples indicating that there is no perfect place in which to live.
And, at any moment, as the world’s major powers ‘push and shove’, the powder keg could explode and the world could be thrust into a massive war that will make our current problems seem rather trivial.
None of this will really surprise Christian believers who understand that many of these things must unfortunately come to pass and are written in the bible.
Admittedly, it’s downright scary and truly a little terrifying if you think too much about it.
Yet, there is still reason to have hope.
There is a rich inheritance promised to those who are in Christ, as indicated in verse 18 of the above scripture.
It is what God has called His saints to.
The word ‘glorious’ is used, not really a word that could be used to describe certain behaviours by world leaders today.
Paul says that he prays continually for the saints.
That’s something practical Christians can do for one another.
Paul prays that God would give them a spirit of wisdom.
That is not necessarily being intellectually smart, but rather an understanding of the things of God, so it’s for everyone who will receive it.
In these days of uncertainty and difficulty, it is encouraging to know that, ultimately, there is reason to hope.
