Talk of the Towns: Power outages are a rotten nuisance
The worst part was the amount of food that had to be thrown away, even though it had been in the fridge, because it was such a hot day.
‘EISHKOM’ lived up to its name once again last weekend.
People in Pennington and those living in Alkins Drive, Park Rynie, were left with no electricity from noon on Friday until just after 9pm – almost 10 hours without power… can you believe it!?
The worst part was the amount of food that had to be thrown away, even though it had been in the fridge, because it was such a hot day.

The cause of the outage is still unknown, but there has been talk of something blowing up somewhere in the area.
Regardless of what happened, I feel it would only be fitting if I were allowed to go to Eskom’s offices and ask to be reimbursed for the food which spoilt.
Seafood isn’t cheap and I unfortunately had to say goodbye to a big packet of that too.
On the flip side, I am however grateful that the power was at least restored on the same day.

Residents of Kelso were not so lucky, being forced to spent the entire weekend with no electricity.
I can only imagine the unnecessary costs they’ve had to endure.
Just a reminder to all those taking part in this year’s Thai Poosam Kavady festival – the flag hoisting takes place this Thursday (30th) at 5.30pm.
Donations are still welcome and can be delivered to the Alayam premises by February 4.
