World Biathle Championships await Southbroom athlete
Kaitlyn Ramos will have her sights set on a medal this year.
Portugal beckons for young Southbroom athlete Kaitlyn Ramos as she prepares for the World Biathle Championships.
She met the qualifying standard for the U17 age group at the SA Biathle champs held in Pietermaritzburg earlier this year.
As a result, she has been selected for the SA Modern Pentathlon Association’s Biathle team to compete in Madeira, Portugal on October 26.
It’s not Kaitlyn’s first time at World Champs as she took part last year when they were held in Mossel Bay.
She placed fourth overall in the girls’ U17 division, with Team SA U17 girls claiming the gold medal.
Now a year older, fitter, faster and more experienced, who knows what awaits.
Whatever the case, it’s an exciting time and will be extra special as Portugal is where her father Andrew’s family is from.
* Meanwhile, her younger brother Keagan, who came 17th in the U15 boys division last year, won’t be competing, as it seems water polo has taken over.
