Hibberdene Happenings: Fun events fill up diaries in Hibberdene

There are many events planned for Hibberdene during February.

Load-shedding continues on its merry way, causing a great deal of irritation and inconvenience. Last Friday’s outage, which was apparently due to transformer trouble, lasted close to 10 hours and led to many frayed nerves.

Have you diarised Wednesday, February 19, between 8.30am and 12.30pm, when your pets will receive their rabies inoculations courtesy of representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development? If, for some reason you are unable to attend at Hibberdene, remember that vaccinations will be done up to and immediately after the 19th. This service is entirely free of charge and should be fully taken advantage of.

Remember the St Valentine’s Day tea to be held at the Methodist Church this Thursday, February 13, at 9am. Men and women are invited and all attending are assured of a great time. A plate of eats will be gratefully welcomed.

Another of the church’s bumper jumble sales will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 8.30am onwards. Although there is still plenty of time, it is not too early to start sorting out your used clothing and housewares, both of which are always in high demand at the sales.

Mizpah Church’s men’s breakfast will be held at the church this coming Saturday (15th) at 7am at a cost of R20 per person. These breakfasts are always entertaining and the food is plentiful and delicious, so make sure you book a spot timeously with Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772.

Mtwalume’s first craft and flea market of the year will take place at the usual site adjoining the pool at Koelwaters Resort on Saturday, February 29, from 9am onwards. Always popular, the markets are a great place for meeting friends, having a bite to eat and generally enjoying oneself. These markets are always extremely popular and a good crowd is expected. And of course the great atmosphere is always enhanced by the toe-tapping music provided by Andy Els.

The thrift shop at the clinic is open for business every Monday and Wednesday morning. It has a number of educational books, suitable for schoolchildren, which are available free of charge to any interested scholars, parents or teachers.

Kleintjie Snyman, Peter Yeldham and Andy Welman have all been hospitalised recently and it is hoped all three are on the road to a complete recovery.

Kotie Low is wished a very happy 80th birthday, to be celebrated on Tuesday, February 18. May she have a very happy day with family and friends. Others celebrating this week are Mark Hopcroft and Janine Hosford (12th), Marie van Rensburg (13th), Colleen Herholdt, Carl Friedenthal and Luke Berry (14th), Jade Balfour (15th), and Shaun Broli, Martin Rautenbach, Lynette James and Tanya Pelser also on February 18, while Betty and Eric Mack celebrate their anniversary on Friday, 14th.

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news, photos and snippets.
