Environmental work being done in the region by various individuals and groups will also be showcased, and the day’s activities will include an interesting programme of talks, demonstrations and video presentations.
Local entrepreneurs, crafters and foodies will have earth-friendly goodies on offer, and the event will be family-friendly.
The Green Net is a community-based environmental organisation which works in the Ugu region.

One of the organisation’s roles is to provide a common network/ database of environmentalists and green technologists in the area, to provide all-round support and opportunities for collaboration.
The organisation also undertakes practical projects to raise awareness of problems and put practical solutions in place.
Project areas include small-scale farming/ permaculture and reforestation; beach and river cleaning measures; opposition to new hazards; profitable recycling/ repurposing projects; development of sustainable building materials, new and existing; and the development of new ‘green’ materials and technologies.
Helen Dodge, founder of The Green Net, said that 20 years from now, we would be unlikely to be using petrol-driven cars, coal-fired electricity or poisons.
“As people around the globe wake up to the realities of environmental and social sustainability, materials and processes that hurt the earth are being outlawed. We stand on the threshold of a whole new human era, and the opportunities are huge.
” Now is the time to be proactive and create sustainable solutions for our region – and possibly even for the rest of the world, too.”
