Tweni Talk: Two recent deaths mourned
Hazel Steyn and Malcolm Humm both died recently.
Mbango Valley resident Hazel Steyn travelled to see her daughter Kerry in Canada, her daughter Lyle in Cape Town and then to Vereeniging for Christmas to be with son Owen last year. Sadly Hazel fell ill while in Vereeniging and ended up in the ICU ward in hospital on January 9. She died on the morning of February 4.

She lived in Oslo beach, and Tweni before moving to the retirement village and was never one to let the grass grow under her feet. She always kept herself busy and gardening was one of her passions. Her marmalades and jams sold under the label ‘Bana’ were very well known, especially on the South Coast.
Hazel leaves behind her brother Chummy and family in Port Shepstone, her daughters, her son and their families. A memorial service will be held today (February 12) at Port Shepstone Methodist Church. Sincerest condolences to all family and friends.
And more sad news is that Malcolm Humm of Shibumi Farm died in hospital last Monday morning. He never fully recovered after a recent heart attack. Deepest condolences to Petra, family and friends.
Jenny Jackson had a torrid time recently. She was booked into Port Shepstone Regional Hospital for a planned operation on January 29. As they were pushing her into theatre, surgery was suddenly postponed because there was no available bed in ICU. Looking on the bright side, at least they found out before the operation. She will need to psych herself up to go through the whole ordeal again on February 23.
The South Coast is beginning to look like a dump, Tweni included. So much so that in Ibis and Abingdon Roads Anneliene Pienaar found two old mattresses that had been dumped on the side of the road. A huge bouquet to her for offering to pick it up and dump it at the New Bolton dumping site. Please do not dump unwanted stuff on the streets.
There is a lot of controversy going on about unleashed dogs being on the beaches.
If they have not been socialised and trained, do not allow them to roam on the beach unleashed and remember to pick up after them. Adhere to the bylaws on public beaches.
It was a busy sporting weekend for some. Well done to Moira King who ran in the Threshhold Hillcrest Marathon and earned herself two medals and a massive blister. Andrew Lattin was the first Junior in the half-marathon. Shirene Smith completed the 8-mile challenge at Midmar Dam this weekend, making her family and friends very proud.
Happy 29th wedding anniversary to Diane and John Saunders for February 9. Happy birthday this week goes to Christine Jansen van Vuuren (12th), Marlene van Tonder (13th), Nevada Kruger turns 13 on February 14, Debi Stewart (16th) and Thea Erasmus (17th).
All news to Leila.
