LOCAL lad Juan van Rheede van Oudtshoorn (19) needs everyone’s help. Born and raised in Scottburgh, Juan matriculated with a university exemption at Scottburgh High School at the end of 2019. He has been offered the opportunity to attend a soccer clinic at Sandown High School in Johannesburg by Socca Dream International. It will be a five-day trial, in partnership with Dino Ndlovu, which kicks off from March 21 to 25.

Attending this clinic will put Juan in the running for further trial selections, where the best player of the trial will be eligible for trials – for free – with one of the professional Socca Dream affiliated teams in Italy. Juan’s dream is to become a professional football player and he would love to play for my favourite club Chelsea one day. Any individuals or local businesses that could sponsor this young man and get him closer to his dreams must please contact Cheryl Martens at 084 2497365.

We are almost halfway through February and most would agree that it is perfectly okay to rush February and its overwhelming weather along.

This past weekend has certainly been a test for one and all. Problems with Eskom took tolerance to new heights – and concern for the future even higher. Powerless. In every single way, shape and form. Those members working a 12-step program admit their powerlessness in step one – and understand that they have no power over anything or anyone but themselves. This was evident for the entire population last weekend.

It’s St Valentine’s Day this Friday and roses, champagne and chocolate will be the order of the day. Personally I think it is a load of rubbish and a waste of money, however – there are people out there who enjoy that.
