Hibberdene Happenings: Marianne’s bottle of coins pays for a cruise

It was just reward for Marianne after saving her R5 coins in a bottle for six years.

Welcome back to Marguerite and Andrew Brophy and Marianne and Greg Lavita who recently returned from a wonderful trip to the Portuguese Islands on board the luxury liner MSC Orchestra. They had the time of their lives and it was just reward for Marianne after saving her R5 coins in a bottle for six years to finance the trip.

Only three men braved the St Valentine’s Day tea at the Methodist Church last Thursday morning, but it did not deter anyone, men and women alike, from have a great time. A St Valentine’s Day dance was held at Blue Waters Pub and Grill last Friday evening. DJ Funky did the honours music-wise and a fun evening was enjoyed by all.

If you enjoy browsing the stalls to the toe-tapping music of Andy Els, then head off to Mtwalume’s popular flea and craft market next Saturday, February 29. It takes place next to the pool at Koelwaters Resort from about 9am and promises to have something for everyone. There is a great mix of stallholders, with a huge variety of interesting goods.

Traditionally the first Friday in March sees the observance of Women’s World Day of Prayer and this year is no exception. The NG and Methodist churches will join together to hold this year’s service at the Methodist Church on Friday, March 6, at 9am. All women are most welcome to attend as the service is inter-denominational, and a good crowd is expected. The men’s breakfast takes place at the church the following day, March 7, at 7am, and costs R30 per person.

Winners of the Lions’ February lucky draw were announced on St Valentine’s Day. Prize-winners are congratulated and all supporters are thanked. Charles Greener – Feed and Seed; Paul Grütter – Fifi’s Fresh Fish; Janine Currin – Tiago’s Open Flame; Elmari van Rooy – Salon Marguerite; Lorraine Lawlor – Blue Waters Pub and Grill; Sue Nicol – Hibberdene Pharmacy; Barry McDonald – Donnée Water, and Willie van Rensburg – Christmas cake.

Val and Clive Fischer celebrate an anniversary on February 20 and Miriam and Arthur Seager on the 23rd, while birthdays will be celebrated by Marius Wandrag and Margaret Elston (20th), Piet Swanepoel (22nd), Pierre Rautenbach and Arthur Daniels (23rd) and Koeks Redelinghuys (25th).
