Scottburgh Golf Club strikes gold
Gold Rush Casino is welcomed on board as a new sponsor.
THE gold rush of the 1890s has hit Scottburgh.
No, the Main Reef hasn’t been found but the club has found a new sponsor in Gold Rush Casino.
We ecently hosted the South Coast ladies with over 60 players taking part.
The format was a fourball alliance with two scores to count which is a favourite and always enjoyed.
Winners were home town favourites, the Scottburgh A team, the formidable combination of Linda Hall,Mandy Jones, Debbie du Toit and Lauren Davey.
The Port Shepstone B team were runners-up and the camaraderie was evident after the game.
Then it was back to the individual game.
Thys Swart, back after a layoff, has been working on his game and fitness to get back to where he was before his medical interruption.
It was no surprise that he finally claimed first place with 37 points, winning by one from Mike Eley and Barry Kisten, Mike getting the nod on the count out, with John Mills and Anton Visage both unearthing the hidden holes.
The chicken runwas a well-fought family affair with lady captain Linda Hall beating club captain and husband, Bob with 20 points to Bob’s 19 to take home her sponsored prize.
The ladies joined us on Saturday for a betterball Stableford.
Mick Marriott, getting back to normal after his visit to Oz, has also been working on his game and on Saturday he and Tony Power combined to win with 45 points, pipping John Mills and Dave Meredith (who is becoming a regular in the prizes of late), by one on 44.
Third were Mike Hogan and Flinky Dreyer on 42.
Two clubs were rolled in by John and Mick but the hidden holes were sheltering.
There always has to be a pair for whom the hole is in the wrong place and this week it was Colin Moodie and Geoff Thommasen’s turn to cough up to the captain’s fund.
Speaking of which, Bob gave a run down on what the fund has achieved so far and we were all surprised at the projects completed and the associated costs.
So all of you who have contributed through “donations” and misdemeanors take a bow and pat yourself on the back.
Flyer’s footnote: No man has mastered golf until he realises that his good shots are accidents and his bad shots are good exercise.
