Plea for return of “special” missing coin
The coin was part of the five-coin series released last year to commemorate 25 years of South Africa’s constitutional democracy.
The partner of Denver Dayalall (25) of Marburg, who is thought to have drowned after he apparently fell off the dolosse while fishing at the Umzimkhulu River mouth in Port Shepstone last Thursday has issued a desperate appeal for his missing belongings to be returned.
Taren Reeves (23) said in addition to his t-shirts, wallet, shoes, three-quarter jeans and glasses, she is particularly keen to recover a special R2 coin which was in Denver’s wallet.
Speaking to the Herald, Taren said Denver had found the coin on March 3, and had told her that he was going to keep it, as the four hands on the back symbolised their family of four – Denver, Taren an their children, Tayden (3) and two month old Drayden.
The coin was part of the five-coin series released last year to commemorate 25 years of South Africa’s constitutional democracy.
Taren said she had planned to frame the coin which meant so much to Denver.
“Denver was a family man who loved his children, and who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He loved fishing and the water,” she said.
She added that they had planned to dedicate Drayden this Sunday, and to get married.
“We had so many plans and still wanted to do so much together.”

At about mid-afternoon last Thursday, NSRI Shelly Beach, along with police K-9 search and rescue, police search and rescue, KwaZulu-Natal government health, Saps, and Med-Evac ambulance services responded.
The sea rescue craft Spirit of Shelly was launched to join the Med-Evac rescue craft, God’s Grace in the search for Mr Dayalall. Paramedics and police search and rescue officers were on board.
Shoreline search efforts were also conducted.
Mr Dayalall was located and recovered onto the Med-Evac rescue craft.
He was brought to shore where he was declared dead by paramedics.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
“We don’t know the cause of death, and we are waiting for the postmortem results,” said Taren.
