Tuning In: Support responsible recycling

Please note only clear plastic bags, which are obtainable free of charge from Pennington Superette, will be accepted at the recycling depot.

A CALL has been made by the Pennington Conservancy to support responsible recycling. The depot, which is financed by the conservancy, offers a valuable recycling service to the community.

Please note only clear plastic bags, which are obtainable free of charge from Pennington Superette, will be accepted at the recycling depot. Except for cardboard, which must be flattened, all recycling must be in clear plastic bags. No boxes or loose items are acceptable.

Items for recycling must be clean and sorted into plastic, glass, tin or paper. Mixed bags are not acceptable. Bags are to be placed into the respective bays. Community members can help the conservancy by taking out an annual membership subscription of R150. For further information, contact Jane Downey at 083 631 5458.

On another note, the Pennington Conservancy Annual General Meeting will take place at Relton Hall on Saturday, March 28 March. Registration takes place at 2pm with the meeting commencing at 3pm.

The Sanctuary of the Great White Light will be holding its first clairvoyant day of the year at 9 Barrow Street, Umkomaas on Saturday, March 28 from 9am to 3pm. There will be Angel, tarot card and clairvoyant readings along with the sale of guide portraits, gemstones and other esoteric goodies. Contact Gayle at 083 6545261 or 031 9038108 to make a booking.

Learn how to make your sushi. The Holy Trinity Church will be holding a sushi-making course on Friday, March 13 from 6pm to 9pm. Make over 20 pieces of sushi, such as California rolls, rainbow rolls, maki, hand rolls, Nigiri and sandwiches. You will also receive a free sushi mat so you can make sushi at home. The cost is R300 per person. Booking is essential, contact Dion at 083 654 1233.

A worthy cause to support this March is the knitted blanket drive in aid of the Sacred Heart Children’s Home in Mtwalume.

Organised by Azelle du Rand, the aim is to have the blankets available by the end of April.

She requires 60 knitted squares of 15cm x 15cm, which makes a blanket of 10 rows with six squares each. Width being 90cm and the length 150cm. Alternatively 40 knitted squares of 20cm x 20cm which makes a blanket of eight rows with five squares each. The width being 100cm and the length 160cm. The drop off point is Harcourts Scots Bay on 2 Margaret Avenue. Contact Azelle on 084 410 8864. Donations of wool would also be greatly appreciated.
