Municipal spokesman, Simon April said their appointment as peace officers meant the officers would be able to enforce the law under Section 9 which deals with littering and illegal dumping.
According to the municipality, illegal dumping and littering often occurred in hidden places and at odd hours, making it difficult to police due to a shortage of resources.
“The municipality would like to emphasise that the private security companies identified to operate as police officers have been screened in terms of criminal records and those which failed the process were not appointed.”
The municipality said it was hopeful that the partnership would yield positive results.
