Margate Moves: Urban renewal precinct on track for Ramsgate

Since being established in 2017 its role within the community is being much better understood and its ability to contribute positively to the general well-being of Ramsgate more apparent.

Lend a hand to those already involved in the community, or environmental services, to further improve Ramsgate’s standing in the eyes of those who live, work and visit there … this was the message given to members who attended the second annual general meeting of the Ramsgate Urban Renewal Precinct NPC a few months ago.

In his feedback report issued recently, the chairman of the board, Simon Lee said the NPC collects a levy through the local municipality from Ramsgate property owners, paid in addition to normal rates, for defined purposes. “The focus is squarely on providing funding to ensuring that Ramsgate is a safer, more secure area for residents and visitors alike, to live work and play in,” he said.

Several proposals were voted upon by the members present, with the most discussed being the budget for the coming financial year, which made provision for a more holistic approach in respect of security and community-related needs.

One aspect that was good to see was the high level of proxy votes lodged by those who would not be able to attend the meeting itself.

The directors of the NPC actively encourage participation in the affairs of the company by the members and look forward to more and more absentee owners utilising this participation vehicle in future.

The Ramsgate Community Policing Forum and private security firms were singled out for their untiring efforts to provide an extremely professional service to the ratepayers, residents and visitors. “We urge the Ramsgate community to carry on with personal donations they make to NGOs of the area, so that these structures may not only continue to provide their current valuable services but also be allowed to expand them into the future,” Mr Lee concluded.
