Seniors learn about yoga

They heard about the benefits of yoga and its holistic approach to mind and body strength.

Seniors at Lighthouse Community Services’ monthly meeting at the Port Shepstone Rehab Centre hall listened attentively to guest speaker, yoga instructor Ansuya Singh of Port Shepstone.

Mrs Singh spoke on the benefits of yoga and its holistic approach to mind and body strength.

“Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It’s a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation.”

She explained that there are different forms of yoga, some fast-paced and intense, others gentle and relaxing.

“Yoga is a great activity for you if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease. It gives you strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness.”

After the talk, the seniors enjoyed a number of games, lucky draws and a delicious lunch.
