Doctor steps up in fight against Covid-19
He appeals to each individual, community and society at large to be responsible in observing social distancing, and isolating and protecting themselves in order to protect others.
Doctor Alstynn Kenneth Pillay and his team from MD24 have opened a new test centre in Shelly Beach as the Covid-19 pandemic leads to an ever-increasing number of infections.
Dr Pillay is perhaps uniquely placed to cope with the outbreak, having battled the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2015.

That epidemic caused major loss of life and socioeconomic disruption mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He remained in Sierra Leone for six months until they were Ebola-free (42 days consecutive days without a case) and was then quarantined for 21 days.
The death rate from that Ebola outbreak was, he said, about 50 percent from direct contact with the virus.
Dr Pillay added that this time the threat was closer to home.
“I thank my staff and all those medical and non-medical personnel who are in the front line of the war against the virus, and urge them to exercise the greatest caution at all times.”
He appealed to each individual, community and society at large to be responsible in observing social distancing, and isolating and protecting themselves in order to protect others.
“Please adhere to the rules and protocols to prevent the spread and flatten the curve.”
