Man hears his stolen music being played, alerts police

The men will appear in court on Friday (May 8).

A man (28) in the Oluphepheni location in St Faiths left his home to attend to some business on March 29, locking the door on his way out.

When he returned later that day, he found the door was unlocked and that several personal items had been stolen, including perfume, a laptop and two USB storage devices, which had music on them.

A few weeks later, he heard his music being played by a neighbour and reported this to investigating officer, Sergeant Nhlanhla Nzimande.

“Police searched the premises and found all the stolen items in the house,” said Ugu Cluster spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge.

A man (36) was arrested and is due to appear in the Ixopo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (May 8).

A telephone was among the stolen goods recovered.

In a separate incident, a man (42) left his home in the Phongola area in St Faiths recently, and upon returning a few weeks later saw that his home had been broken into.

Among the items stolen were his television set, gas stove, building supplies and an electric meter box.

Acting on intelligence, Detective-Sergeant Bongumusa Yeni arrested a man (25) and recovered some of the stolen property.

The man will appear in the Ixopo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (May 8).
