WATCH: SPCA frees dog from locked vehicle at shopping centre
A field officer broke the window in order to remove the animal.

Staff at the Lower SPCA received a call earlier today about a dog which had been left in a vehicle parked at a local shopping mall.
The dog had been locked in a bakkie, in the sun, for more than a hour.
Assistant CEO, Carla Steenkamp said the society will not allow cruelty to animals in its area of jurisdiction.

Trainee field officers Cher Allan and Lindo Mbhele found that there was no water provided for the animal, and although the window was open, it was not open enough.
Trainee officer Allan phoned Society CEO, Scott Kvalsvig and Ms Steenkamp for approval to break the vehicle’s window.
A Law Enforcement officer was also present.

“The window was broken and the dog was removed from the vehicle. A notice to comply was issued to the owner,” said Mr Kvalsig.
The dog was taken to the SPCA where it was checked by one of the society’s vets.

A warning will be given to the owner when the dog is claimed.
