In his tribute Cllr Ronnie Nair aptly summed up her life when he said "Mrs Naidoo was a legend in her own right".

An embodiment of humbleness, courtesy, modesty, hard work and kindness, Parvathiamma Naidoo, the wife of former principal of Port Shepstone Secondary, the late  AK Naidoo died on Wednesday, June 17 aged 86.

Born into a family of seven siblings in Durban, she married AK Naidoo, and lived in Durban, Dundee and finally Port Shepstone where they set up home and became an integral part of the local community.

She may have carried her famous husband’s initials but she was a strong lady who commanded respect,” – Joe Raju,  family friend.

Mrs Naidoo worked with different charitable organisations. At meetings she said very little but always gave of her best when the work translated to helping those in need.

“She was a very active member of the Women’s Institute. “Her modesty belied her talent,” said another family friend, Sushilla Naidoo.

She displayed unconditional modesty in winning monthly and annual competitions in culinary skills, floral arrangements and embroidery. Being a part of the Port Shepstone Andhra Sabha she was always quietly ready to work and get things done.

She was a pillar of strength to her husband in all his community work, hosting many meetings at their home and supporting him at various functions.

“Aunty AK” was well-known for her culinary skills. She was always willing to teach and share her recipes. No visit to the Naidoo home would be complete without her signature tea and homemade delights.

All those who shared a meal at the Naidoo?s home will bear testimony to her exemplary skills in the art of cooking.

She spent her last few years needing specialist care at Mbango Valley, but despite her illness, in the earlier days she never complained, showed no anger, was cheerful and always chatted with laughter.

In his tribute Cllr Ronnie Nair aptly summed up her life when he said “Mrs Naidoo was a legend in her own right”.

“As the community of Port Shepstone, we bid farewell to an incredible lady who touched so many lives with her warm smiles, her renowned hospitality and the serenity that one felt in her presence.

“Given the stature of the Naidoos within the community of Port Shepstone, we all mourn the end of a legendary couple.”

Mrs Naidoo leaves behind four children, Anand (USA), Suresh (Cape Town), Rajen and Vanitha, two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
