Glen Road residents feel neglected

The condition of the road itself is a major concern.

Residents of Glen Road in Marburg are furious at having to pay rates but not getting the services they feel they should.

The condition of the road itself is a major concern.

This section of road was dug up and abandoned by contractors.

According to a spokesman for the residents who asked to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, a contractor dug up the road and departed, leaving it littered with holes.

According to the spokesman, countless enquiries and numerous complaints had been brought to the attention of their ward councillor, Ajith Rajaram but to no avail.

“Every time I call him he says he is trying to get hold of the municipality. I pay R850 for rates but what am I getting in return?

“This is absolutely disgusting. Other areas are given preference and we are left to live like animals. For the past six weeks we have been complaining about this road but no help is forthcoming,” he said.

He added that they were fast running out of patience as even verges were not being cut.

Glen Road in Marburg is in a shocking state.

“We are neglected here and we demand services now. It’s long overdue and we are tired of promises.”

When contacted for comment, Councillor Rajaram confirmed he was aware of the situation, adding that he had last week reported the matter to the relevant authorities at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

“I have raised the issue with the roads department. I will go to Glen Road, take photos and send them to the Municipal Manager.

“It is not only that road – many roads have been damaged and even drainage is in a bad way. I understand it is a problem, and we will address it accordingly,” he said.
