Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the houses robbed in the Amadiba area in Bizana recently. Eleven cottages were robbed on June 11, reportedly by a group of more than six men.
Items stolen included fridges, stoves, beds, and solar panels.
The suspects were arrested in Gcingo outside Bizana on June 13, when they were found with some of the stolen goods in a truck.
According to Amadiba Crisis Committee (ACC) spokesman Nonhle Mbuthuma, more details about the looting have emerged, including the fact that during the robbery, the guard was pepper sprayed, beaten and tied up.
More of the stolen property was found at the premises of the truck owner who, together with three or four other suspects, is being sought by police.
The ACC commended the police for their swift response, in particular Mount Ayliff Station Commander, Brigadier Fikile Macala and Captain Ndumiso Junqwana from Bizana who kept them updated on the progress of the investigation.
“Officers at the Mpisi and Bizana police stations also worked 24/7 to catch the robbers,” said Mbuthuma.
The ACC added it hoped all suspects would be brought to book and that the reputation of Amadiba would not be tainted as it was an important tourist destination.
