Port Shepstone Regional Hospital to take stringent measures as Covid-19 cases climb

The continuous deep cleaning of the hospital enables the facility to continue rendering the critically needed healthcare services to the general population of the district.

As Covid-19 cases have started to increase in Ugu District, management of Port Shepstone Regional Hospital has implemented stringent measures for normal and deep cleaning methods in all affected areas, which is done as and when it is deemed necessary.

The Covid-19 guidelines recommend deep cleaning which is followed by sufficient time to dry the place when there is a patient who tested positive for Covid-19.

Phumza Morai, public relations officer for the hospital, said the facility has a special team which has been given sufficient training, personal protective equipment and the correct chemicals to conduct the deep cleaning, which often takes place in the evenings in all the identified areas.

The continuous deep cleaning enables the facility to continue rendering the critically needed healthcare services to the general population of the district while ensuring the safety of both healthcare workers and the patients.

Nevertheless, accommodating the Covid-19 regulations has led to the hospital being unable to perform elective surgery until the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health deems it fit for hospitals to do so, while access to outpatient services is sometimes delayed as patients have to undergo screening before proceeding to the respective departments.

Ms Morai said the public is urged to continue with Covid-19 hygiene regulations and understand that all measures that are being implemented by the hospital are for the safety of patients and staff while dealing with Covid-19.
