Mum and daughter crochet 28 blankets to keep people warm this winter

In addition, they've also knitted and crocheted 47 teddies to provide comfort to children.

Sharon Duxbury of Margate and her mother Maureen Colyn have crocheted 28 blankets for Mandela Day 67 projects.

In addition, they’ve also knitted and crocheted 47 teddies. “We decided to help a friend, Gaylyn Gregory from Absa Bank, with the first project (blankets) for Mandela Day 67.

“This project is active all over South Africa and assists needy people by providing warm blankets for winter. Other people across the country are crocheting scarves as well,” said Sharon.

Sharon Duxbury and her mother Maureen Colyn with the teddies crocheted and knitted during lockdown.

They started off simply but as they went along decided to incorporate different patterns and colours.

Originally they were only going to make four but the bug bit and they ended up making 28!

“We helped another friend knit and crochet teddy bears to give to children in the community. A few women got together and 47 teddy bears were made.

“Each one was made with love and in the hope they will bring each recipient comfort in this time.”

“It has kept us active and busy during lockdown and been good exercise for the fingers,” she said.
