House robbery thwarted in Oslo Beach
One of the suspects opened fire on the police who then returned fire, injuring one of them.
Warning shots fired by a homeowner led to four men fleeing the scene of an attempted house robbery in Seaward Lane, Oslo Beach on Saturday, July 25.
The man (52) was watching television at about 10pm when the suspects gained entry into his residence.
An alert employee warned the man, who then fired warning shots.
The suspects fled.
Port Shepstone Saps responded.
The K9 unit was also dispatched and gave chase after spotting the suspects on foot in the area.
“One of the suspects opened fire on the police who then returned fire, injuring one of them,” said police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane.
Three men were arrested and a 9mm pistol was recovered.
They appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 27 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted house robbery.
The case was postponed.
A fourth suspect is still at large, however police are confident of an arrest soon.
The firearm will be sent to the SAPS forensic unit for ballistics tests to determine ownership and if it had been used to commit any other crimes.
