‘Supermom’ Hlengiwe is determined to help others
She says saving lives is her passion and so is focused on helping women who find themselves in abusive relationships.
Murchison’s Hlengiwe Ndlela (30) is determined to change her life and motivate other women to do the same.
Mother to a daughter (9) and son (1), the businesswoman and Kokstad Private Hospital professional nurse is holding her own in the business world and at work despite the spike in Covid-19 cases countrywide, which can be stressful for a mother who has to return home to her children each day.

Hlengiwe says saving lives is her passion and so is focused on helping women who find themselves in abusive relationships.
She runs several businesses, including one which supplies freshly grown cabbages to various supermarkets in and around Port Shepstone. “I love what I do, and I love keeping myself busy.”
Raised by a single mom herself, the fact that her mom could not afford to pay her study fees did not deter Hlengiwe from wanting to change her life for the better.
“I’ve worked hard to get where I am today. It’s not easy raising two children on your own, running businesses and having a full time job, but determination keeps me going.”
Hlengiwe is a born-again Christian who loves motivating women to work hard and leave toxic relationships.
Having had a bad experience of her own, she says women should learn to work hard and depend less on men. She also encourages them to surround themselves with positive thinkers.

“God gives us signs – don’t ignore them. There is always that little voice that tells you to leave when the unexpected happens, but we always hope that people will change.”
According to Hlengiwe, there’s never an acceptable reason for a man to abuse a woman, no matter what the circumstances. “If he starts abusing you, he will never stop, so walk away. Take note of the signs unless you want to sacrifice your own life.”
Apart from work, Hlengiwe enjoys cooking, especially her signature beef stew, and says her favourite snack is a chakalaka garlic roll and meat.
