OPINION: ‘It is indeed a miracle to experience such kindness and compassion’

Good Samaritan assists elderly man standing in queue at licensing department.

Editor

Having left home recently at 6.30am to renew my driver’s licence, I was horrified to discover that I was number 80 in the nightmare queue at the licensing department.

After four and a half hours on a very empty stomach and with no chair available I felt (and must have looked) every one of my 76 years.

Then a miracle occurred. The gentleman ahead of me went off and bought me an energy bar, a fizzy drink and some fruit. Not only that, but over the next few hours he managed to persuade those ahead of him to allow this old man to ‘jump’ the queue.

Unfortunately this kind, humble Good Samaritan was not eager to provide his full name, so I can only thank Chris M from Izingolweni who works on a ship.

I was however able to obtain his phone number and my wife has called him to thank him for his kindness.

In this time of economic and Covid-19 gloom it is indeed a miracle to experience such kindness and compassion.

To quote Abba “I believe in Angels” and I do…I encountered one.
