Park Rynie film production company gets international recognition and completes first feature film

Boulevard Films has wrapped up production of 'Fish's Tale' and will be holding auditions for its second feature film, 'Dreamy Dave', soon.

‘Fish’s Tale’, written by multi-talented Scottburgh local, Bruce Gounder earlier this year is a family comedy feature film locally produced, about a conman named Fish (played by Bruce) who is about to face foreclosure on his house and conjures up numerous and hilarious scams with his side-kick Weasel to relieve him from the situation.

Production for the film has just been wrapped up by Boulevard Films, a new and local film production company based in the little town of Park Rynie on the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) South Coast, run by Bruce and his partner, Nadhir Hurilal from Umkomaas.

“Times have been tough this year with everyone battling a pandemic, so we aimed to create a fun and comical film to put a smile on people’s faces and to hopefully help them de-stress,” said Bruce.

“This movie not only features a few familiar faces on screen, but also gives exposure to new and upcoming local actors and promotes some of KZN’s most stunning locations on the South Coast and in Durban.”

‘Fish’s Tale’ is the first of five feature films to be produced by Boulevard Films.

The movie was directed and produced by award winning film and television director and producer, Mqondisi “MQ” Ngubane who put together a great and skilled team for production.

Several new filmmakers from KZN joined the crew giving them an opportunity to work on a film set for the very first time.

“Filming was achieved over an unbelievable eight-day period as MQ put in place an intelligent shooting schedule and structure cognizant of Covid-19 restrictions and production movements,” explained Bruce.

Young and new coordinators such as Marius Vermaak and Christian Taylor, worked alongside one of the country’s youngest first assistant director, Brendan Ngubane and second assistant director, Khuliso Mukwevho.

The crew together with the film’s executive producers, Bruce and Nadhir, set out on a mission to prove that despite all the odds, the show (or movie in this case) must go on.

Boulevard Films has already been recognised internationally in Australia, India and Hollywood. The company does casting, filming, commercials, corporate events and music videos and much more.

As it is a fairly new company, it is still on the lookout for hairstylists, make-up artists and others to join the production crew.

“Many people faced and still face unemployment because of the pandemic, and our company has been able to create jobs for them,” said Bruce.

‘Fish’s Tale’ is expected to premiere soon, so follow @fishstalethemovie on Instagram for updates.

The movie is also expected to premiere in Sydney, Australia.

Bruce who is an ambassador for Heart of Hollywood magazine, will be heading to Australia in a few weeks’ time for another upcoming project with Boulevard Films, “Dreamy Dave”.

“We will be working both locally and internationally for the second film and are once again giving locals another opportunity to show us their talents and hopefully make it on the big screen,” said Bruce.

Auditions for ”Dreamy Dave” will be held at the Boulevard Films office in Park Rynie, Lot 392 on the Old Main Road ( the old Thakaree Palace premises) on August 12 at 10am.

All those interested are required to prepare a one minute monologue.

Prior to the audition date, people should email a picture of themselves and a biography to mariusvermaak97@gmail.com. Please note that auditions are by appointment only so you have to email your information before your audition.

Covid-19 measures will be taken into account and people MUST wear a mask when auditioning.
