Police use teargas to disperse Izingolweni protesters, two arrested for public violence

Police are monitoring the situation.

The community of Izingolweni embarked on protest action in the early hours of today (August 4) and blockaded the roads with rocks and logs.

“The road blockades started at 4am in three separate areas causing traffic to come to a standstill,” said provincial police spokesman, Col Thembeka Mbele.

The road between Paddock and Izingolweni was closed during the protest.

Police are monitoring the situation.

Ugu District management is on the scene now to address the disgruntled community.

“Public Order Police dispersed the protesters with teargas and two men were arrested for public violence.”
