Motorists plead for Park Rynie traffic lights be fixed

Only half of the traffic lights are working, which has caused quite a bit of confusion.

Almost a week ago, the Park Rynie traffic lights on the R102 were severely damaged when a car reportedly crashed into them.

This is a fairly busy intersection and many accidents have occurred in that area over the years.

Only half of the traffic lights are now working and this has caused a bit of confusion.

“I have to use that intersection when taking my child to school in Umzinto, and we have to be extra cautious now that half of the traffic lights aren’t functioning like they should,” said one concerned local.

“This morning I witnessed a motorist drive onto the kerb to go around the traffic light section as he may have been uncertain how the traffic lights are working now.”

Traffic lights on one side of the intersection are out of order while another set have been knocked over and removed.

Should all of the traffic lights stop working, motorists should to treat that section of road as a four-way stop.

The matter has been reported to Umdoni Municipality’s customer services department as well as to the relevant traffic authorities.
