Smile, Margate – you’ve just been framed!
Margate Ratepayers' and Residents' Association chairman Barry Smit said the association firmly believed that "this amazing town still has a heartbeat" and that its residents would have to work together like never before to restart the town's economy.
The South Coast’s very first public ‘photo booth’ was officially opened at Margate beachfront this week.
Everyone – businesses, locals and holidaymakers – is encouraged to make use of the fun and funky frame and share the snaps across their social media platforms to highlight that Margate remains the South Coast’s flagship holiday destination.
Margate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association chairman Barry Smit said the launch was significant, not only in that it was the official introduction of this unique feature, but that it also showed the association’s commitment to taking huge strides towards helping Margate’s tourism industry recover in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We all know the devastation the lockdown has caused to our economy and it will be a long and difficult road to get the South Coast back on the map.
We believe however that this frame will add tremendous value to our town and will be a beacon of hope, a lighthouse to assist us through these stormy times, – Barry Smit
Mr Smit said the association firmly believed that “this amazing town still has a heartbeat” and that its residents would have to work together like never before to restart the town’s economy.
“We are privileged to have the backing of and a good working relationship with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and Ugu South Coast Tourism, as well as the wholehearted support of residents and businesses who share our passion for Margate.”
He added that this was the first of many projects in the pipeline.
Others included the Public Private Partnership and Special Ratings Area which, he said, would add more value to the beautiful town.
Ugu South Coast Tourism; Andrew Ramos and Angel Lehmann from Sign Master and Tiago’s; Brady Mackay-Coghill from COGS Engineering; Margate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association; Margate Business Association and Don Ira Property Management are thanked for their contribution to the frame.
