Janushka’s dance dreams delayed
She won gold for her dance routine but the subsequent invitation to compete overseas is on hold due to lockdown restrictions.
Once the global threat of the coronavirus has passed (and no one can say for sure when that might be) a trip to dance overseas is on the cards for Janushka Erasmus (9) of Port Shepstone.
She recently took part in an eisteddfod in Durban which served as provincial trials for the Talent Africa competition, where she achieved above 80 percent.
This saw her progress to the national qualifier which was due to be held in Johannesburg.
However, due to the lockdown, this couldn’t take place, but contestants were permitted to submit online entries.
Janushka impressed the judges sufficiently to see her win gold for her dance routine.
She was invited to go to Spain or to New York, USA to compete with the rest of the South African team. When this will happen is uncertain due to the coronavirus restrictions.
Her dance school is In Motion Dance Academy, with teacher is Talitha Helberg.
Janushka is registered with SADT and the Federation of Performing Arts South Africa.
She thanked her sponsors, especially Highland Glass and The Crafters Marker in Margate, who had made it possible, as well as family and friends.
