Fisherman assisted by NSRI in health scare at sea

The man was taken into the care of Med-Evac paramedics and was transported to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance.

A local fisherman, who experienced some medical issues while out at sea yesterday, was assisted by NSRI Shelly Beach.

Jeremiah Jackson, NSRI Shelly Beach station commander, said his duty crew had been activated following a request for assistance from a local woman on a boat heading towards Shelly Beach from fishing at Protea Banks.

“She reported that her brother appeared to have suffered a medical issue and she was steering the boat towards Shelly Beach herself, requesting medical assistance and help to get the boat to shore,” he said.

“Our duty crew responded to our sea rescue base and the sea rescue craft Shelly Spirit was launched and Med-Evac ambulance services were activated. We rendezvoused with the boat at the backline and found her brother to be in a stable condition.”

NSRI crew members were transferred onto their boat and the casualty boat was brought to shore through the surfline without incident.

The man was taken into the care of Med-Evac paramedics and was transported to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance.
