Call for applications for WWF’s 2021 graduate internship programme

Applications are invited from qualified first degree, honours and masters graduates who want to gain valuable work experience while participating in impactful work that benefits people and the environment.

Co-ordinated by the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) award-winning Environmental Leaders Programme, the internship offers 25 varied placements and will run from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Graduates in the fields of law, business and economics, social science, arts, engineering and natural sciences – across all South African universities, especially those in the Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, Free State and North West provinces – are encouraged to apply before the end of August.

This practical and paid internship provides graduates with the opportunity to obtain hands-on workplace experience with exciting options in various host organisations. Each intern is assigned a dedicated and trained mentor.

Through a range of structured training activities, this well-established internship will also provide the selected interns with opportunities for networking in the sector, as well as learning and development opportunities that will prepare them for the world of work.

WWF’s internship programme has had a 90% success rate of interns moving from the internship into full-time employment.

For South Africa to successfully move towards a climate-smart green economy, innovative leaders are needed to address the social and environmental risks being faced today. The ambition of the WWF Environmental Leaders Graduate Internship Programme is to empower future leaders, develop key skills for the environmental sector and increase the employability of young graduates.

Since 2011, the programme has placed 177 interns – 66% women and 85% black South Africans.

“Over the years we have had the support from a number of strong partners – from funders to host employers and mentors. This internship provides our young graduates the opportunity to make a difference to the well-being of our people while contributing to a building a sustainable future,” said Dr Glenda Raven, Senior Manager of WWF’s Environmental Leaders Programme.

The application deadline for the WWF Environmental Leaders Graduate Internship Programme is 4pm on August 31, 2020.
