Warrant Officer Matani Robert Ncane from Port Edward has retired after 28 years with the South African Police Service. “The police service has been a home away from home and a place where I was able to serve. “I tried to always make sure the welfare of the public came first, in line with ‘batho pele principles’,” said the dedicated officer.

As much as W/O Ncane was looking forward to spending time at home with his loved ones, he said he would miss his colleagues. “I am grateful for the constant support of my family, colleagues and management. “I am also thankful that God has carried me this far. I have overcome a lot of challenges through Him.” He urged the young men and women in blue not to forget to involve the Almighty in whatever they did along their journey.
His list of training courses was comprehensive and this had enabled him to become an expert in his field. W/O Ncane was described as having a strong character and good leadership skills. Port Edward acting station commander Captain Patrick ‘Paddy’ O’Connor thanked the officer for his dedication, passion and support. “He will be remembered for his courage, love and inspiration. He was always there to assist if needed. I have no doubt that new members have learnt a lot from him.”
