After a stellar vocal performance, the talented singer received a stamp of approval from judges Randall Abrahams, Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi Msengane and Dr Tumi Makweya along with the most sought-after ticket in town – a golden ticket which takes him straight through to Theatre Week.

Speaking to the Herald, Ray said he entered the competition because he has always loved music and the idea of being a part of the show.

Although he is currently studying part-time at Unisa, Ray says he loves performing at weddings, birthdays and other special occasions.

Growing up, Ray’s parents were not sold on the idea of singing as a career, and advised him to study and have something to fall back on before pursuing his dream.

“My sister has encouraged me so much. She has always told me that the biggest mistake I could make would be to let go of my dream.”

Apart from singing, Ray also enjoys socialising and learning to play his guitar.
