Lamentations 3:22-24 (English Standard Version)
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end.
23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”

The prophet Jeremiah knew about hard times.
He really did not have things easy, even by Old Testament standards.
He was called to proclaim a message of repentance. Of course, this was an unpopular sermon and the people, instead of responding to God’s call, tried to have Jeremiah killed.
But God kept him through all this, until he had preached all God had asked him to speak.
He wasn’t a man who had many friends, and even his family basically turned on him.
Yet, in all this he recognises and acknowledges God’s love as something that never ends.
Even though he was afflicted, he could say God’s mercies never ended.
He clearly had a relationship and understanding of God that his fellow Israelites at the time did not.
They were hell-bent on doing things their own way, and not on following the ways of God.
Jeremiah though, remained steadfast in his faith.
