Project manager Ayanda Masengeni said the Sweetbike project sought to ensure that learners had access to education while promoting healthy living and personal responsibility.

“The project fights the spread of Covid- 19 among learners as it ensures that they adhere to the strict Covid-19 guidelines such associal distancing.

Pupils from KwaNositha Primary are excited to receive new bicycles.

“When riding the bikes, pupils are less likely to be in close contact with each other on their way to and from school.

“According to Mr Masengeni, the bicycles were donated to the schools, and not to individual learners.

“This will ensure that learners develop a sense of responsibility as they will have to return the bicycles to the school at the end of the academic year, allowing for new learners to benefit from the project.”

A call was also made for businesses, community members, government and private individuals to join in and sponsor a bicycle.
