Renowned sports journalist dies
He stayed true to his roots, organising annual sporting tournaments in his former home town to give the youth an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Highly respected journalist and former Magabeni resident, Sbusiso Mseleku (59) died in a Vereeniging hopsital on Monday, August 17 after having tested positive for Covid-19. Mr Mseleku, a role model and mentor to many young journalists began his career at the Ilanga lase Natal newspaper before moving on to other publications, including The Sowetan.

He spent many years at City Press as sports editor and launched the Sbusiso Mseleku Sports AKA the #SMS channel on Facebook, where he published articles on sports news, sports personalities, lifestyles and more.
He stayed true to his roots, organising annual sporting tournaments in his former home town to give the youth an opportunity to showcase their talents. Sbusiso was particularly well-known for his generosity to the community at Christmas when he would organise events and hand out gifts.
“It is sad that we continue to lose our heroes and heroines to Covid-19,” said Mntomuhle Khawula (MPL) Inkatha Freedom Party’s KZN spokesman for Sports and Recreation. “Sbusiso’s extensive knowledge of South Africa’s football history and its dynamics was a fountain of wisdom for many football fans. He will be missed for his insightful and unbiased reporting.”
