According to one of the friends, they had sneaked away from their homes to enjoy a walk on the beach.

Once there, they decided to go for a swim.

“Oscar did not come with us. We left him at home but he later joined us.

“He told us he was going to fetch his sister from school so would only stay for a few minutes,” the friend said.

During those few minutes, the boys got into difficulty, and Oscar disappeared beneath the water.

When the Herald arrived at the beachfront, Port Shepstone search and rescue teams, Med-Evac and Ray Nkonyeni Law Enforcement were already searching for the missing teen.

By yesterday (Wednesday), he had still not been found.

Oscar’s family say they remain hopeful that he will be returned to them.
