Candles were lit in remembrance of the five murdered women whose bodies were dumped in the area.
This was followed by a prayer at Sibanini Hall where food parcels were given to the families of the slain women.

“We are here to spread a message that we men should stop abusing women.
“We don’t want to ever hear about another woman being killed here,” said car club member and Mthwalume resident, Senzo Bhengu.
He added that they no longer wanted women and children to be violated and pleaded with community members to speak up and not hide GBV.

Sya Gasa of BJ Gasa Farms said as farmers, they too were deeply troubled by what had happened in Mthwalume.
“The discovery of the women’s bodies in the sugarcane fields was very disturbing.
“We are offering a R50 000 reward to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.”
