Marianna’s troubles drain away

Her two bedroom home, on the corner of Link and Sunnyside Roads, has flooded four times since 2012.

Marianna Williams of Sunwich Port is giving Ray Nkonyeni Municipality a big thumbs up.

Her two bedroom home, on the corner of Link and Sunnyside Roads, has flooded four times since 2012.

The Herald has followed the saga closely, publishing many articles about Marianna’s struggles over the years.

Email trails date back to 2012, when the Herald first began asking the municipality to build a proper storm water drainage system to prevent the home from flooding.

Eight years later – and just in time for the rainy season – Marianna said she was extremely grateful to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Musa Muguni (Roads Manager), Mzomuhle Jali (Superintendent Depot 1) and Simphiwe Mhlongo (Acting Supervisor) and the team for the work done to improve the drainage in and around her home.

Marianna’s partner Hennie van der Merwe said RNM had been “great”, adding that they were very grateful for the municipality’s efforts.

“We really appreciate what this team has done to help us. Now, we can look forward to the rain,” he said.
