An alert security guard and the owner of the vehicle spotted the man driving off and managed to intercept him at the traffic lights.

Traffic came to a halt on Tuesday this week when a man attempted to steal a car from a Port Shepstone car wash where it was parked, waiting to be washed.

An alert security guard and the owner of the vehicle spotted the man driving off and managed to intercept him at the traffic lights.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the man was apprehended and the car keys retrieved.

The owner of the vehicle declined to open a case.
