Kathi Nel appointed principal at Port Shepstone High School

Her attention to detail is remarkable and she is known for her passionate teaching style and caring approach.

Kathi Nel (neé Barkhuizen) has been an integral part of Port Shepstone High School since she joined the school as an educator in January 1996.

She served as a head of grade and as a state paid head of department since July 2013.

In October 2014, she stepped into the vital role of deputy principal for academics, and it is here where her calmness and grace began to shine.

Port Shepstone High School is delighted to announce that Kathi Nel has been appointed as the new principal.

On Peter Jenkins’s retirement at the end of March 2020, Mrs Nel stepped into the role of acting principal for Port Shepstone High School.

To say that it was a difficult time for any transition is an understatement, but she rose to the occasion with aplomb and steered this ship through the choppy depths of lockdown and distance-learning.

Covid-19 presented unique challenges to all educational institutions, and Port Shepstone High School met all difficulties with team spirit and a work ethic engendered by our top management.

Port Shepstone High School is delighted to announce that Kathi Nel has been appointed as the new principal.

Mrs Nel has built up a reputation for fostering a fair and open approach when dealing with both learners and educators.

Her attention to detail is remarkable and she is known for her passionate teaching style and caring approach.

She taught life science and mathematical literacy, was involved with our hostel from the early years, coached water polo and was actively involved with our annual school magazine.

She has proven to be a dedicated member of this institution and has contributed greatly to staff development.

She consistently inspires and guides the staff of Sheppie High with an ever-steady hand, and we look forward to this exciting new era of leadership.
