Let’s clean-up Mbango River together

Friends of The Green Net are calling on the community to help them clean-up the Mbango River this Saturday, December 12 from 9am to 1pm.
If it rains, they will reschedule for Sunday morning, the 13th.
Friends of The Green Net have already begun clearing the river in the vicinity of the bridge in Sheppie borough grounds (turn inland at ‘confusion junction’ and immediately left; follow the road around and past the kennel club buildings).
The Green Net is very aware of the impact that dirty rivers have on human, animal, soil and ocean health.
Group members have decided to focus on cleaning up and rehabilitating the Mbango River as a long-term project.
Helen Dodge, founder of The Green Net, said the river is currently beset with plastic, effluent and alien invasive plants, in the water and along the banks.
She encouraged those planning to help to wear boots and gloves if possible, and bring drinking water and a sun hat.
“If we all get stuck in, we’ll soon be able to enjoy this beautiful space again, and the wildlife will certainly benefit too,” she said.
