Woman robbed in licence queue
Port Shepstone Saps confirmed that a robbery case was opened for investigation.
A woman and man were robbed of a cellphone and wallet by four knife-wielding men while waiting in the queue outside the licensing office in Port Shepstone last week.
She was there to book her learner’s licence while her colleague was renewing his PDP.
They got there about 5am to queue and a few people were ahead of them.
“At about 6.30am, there was about 20 of us and we sat in front of the gate. Four men approached us, all had knives, they took my phone and my colleague’s wallet. They didn’t care that there were other people around us,” said the woman.
“People’s lives are in danger,” she said.
Port Shepstone Saps confirmed that a robbery case was opened for investigation.
“A woman was robbed last Thursday at about 6.30am of cash and a cellphone while waiting in Memorial Road. It is alleged that four men approached her and a colleague and threatened to stab them if they did not hand over valuables,” said police spokesman, Capt Petros Mpinge.
No arrests have been made as yet.
In a second, unrelated incident, a woman was robbed of a gold necklace as she was about to renew her vehicle licence disc, also in Port Shepstone about two weeks ago.
“I was standing on the pavement outside the building when a man came up to me, grabbed my chain with force and ran,” she said.
Fueled with adrenaline and anger, she chased the thief, but fell and injured her elbow.
“It was a horrible experience,” she said.
